When In Rome… STAY at Hotel Locarno
How charming can a place be.
We were lucky to have picked the perfect place for the most charming stay in the beautiful city of Rome.
Hotel Locarno.
It’s a vintage Italian hotel, that just got renovated on the one side. On the other half, the renovation is in progress, but it allows you to see and imagine how it has been here in the golden 20’s! It’s a place out of the movies.
Many directors have used the hotel as a setting in popular films and the Genevan director Bernard Weber chose it as the star of his feature film ‘Hotel Locarno’ in 1978. Author Alain Elkann also set his last novel, ‘Hotel Locarno’, here.
Opened in 1925, Hotel Locarno, four-star hotel in the historic centre of Rome, is a refined ‘guesthouse’; a gem of class and charm and authentic guardian of a certain era. The hotel has an unbreakable bond with the world of art and culture; over the years it has offered shelter for artists, film-makers, writers, musicians and travellers who have chosen it as their refuge and indeed it still does today.
Hotel Locarno a “stylish lighthouse” that will brighten up your stay in the “Eternal City”…
We loved to escape the fast living and modern design there, time feels more slow and you can enjoy your time in the romantic winter garden with a book, a glas of wine and some delicious Italian snack.
When the sun goes down, the cosy winter garden turns into a real hotspot for everyone. Locals also love this place and take their delicious aperitivis before dinner right here.
Location
The Hotel Locarno is located at Via Della Penna 22, an exclusive position just a short distance from the splendid Piazza del Popolo in the heart of Rome’s historic centre. A pleasant walk will lead you to Piazza di Spagna, the Trinità dei Monti, Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia, Ara Pacis and the Colosseum in no time at all.
The most beautiful shopping street in Rome is just a step away from the hotel and we had such a great time discovering everything while walking around. As usual, my eyes were bigger than my wallet, I advise to bring your man. In any case, two wallets are better, right?
Charme
The hotel is spread over two adjacent buildings linked by a delightful garden where the scent of flowers and centuries-old wisteria drifts on the air, all part of the Hotel’s romantic atmosphere. In spring, summer and also the colder periods of the year, this garden awaits guests for breakfast, lunch and wonderful aperitifs.
When I saw the pictures of the garden before we arrived, I said to myself ‘What it pity that it’s winter, it might be closed’. But no! There are heaters that keep you warm while relaxing in the garden with a signature cocktail!
Stepping over the threshold of the Hall into the captivating spaces beyond is like stepping back in time: the original Art Nouveau style from the early 20th century has been preserved and reinterpreted over the years for a unique look where period furniture and precious finishings combine harmoniously with the precious upholstery, paintings and posters by famous poster artist Anselmo Ballester.
Our Room
We had the room 606, which was very Italian, very royal and elegant and that made us feel more than satisfied and happy. A total of 66 rooms and suites, each different from the last in terms of size, furnishings and decoration – but all strictly antique -, are equipped with all modern comforts so as to transport guests into a world of refined relaxation. In the morning we took our breakfast in the bed… priceless!
ROOM 606
We were actually very sad to leave and get back to reality…
The staff was very very friendly and made us feel like home! We are more than happy to have discovered this beauty in the center of rome and recommend it to everyone visiting the city.
The hotel also offers its guests a free bicycle service so they can discover the Eternal City and its priceless artistic heritage.
