THE BIRKIN CELEBRATES ITS 40TH ANNIVERSARY: A SPECIAL SELECTION TO MARK THE OCCASION!
Paris – Christie’s is pleased to present an exceptional collection to be sold online from October 30 to November 13, 2024: Unlocking the Orange Dream: Handbags From an Important Private Collection. This private collection of rare quality, comprising nearly 200 luxury bags, reflects more than two decades of passion for the House of Hermès.

With a rich palette of colors and patterns, this selection brings together iconic pieces such as the Birkin, Kelly and Constance, alongside limited editions and special commissions, often made from exotic skins. Dating from the late 1990s to the 2000s, these creations reflect the unrivalled savoir-faire of the House of Hermès.

Masterpieces include the Birkin Nuage (estimate: €60,000-80,000), renowned for its rarity, and iconic models from the Jean Paul Gaultier era, such as the So Black Kelly (estimate: €15,000-20,000) and the So Black Birkin (estimate: €20,000-30,000), synonymous with monochrome elegance. The Shadow Birkin (estimate: €15,000-20,000) stands out for its bold allure, evoking a Birkin through the play of reliefs.

Other treasures include the playful Candy Collection with its Tiny Birkin and Kelly (estimate: €10,000 to €15,000), as well as the Ghillies Collection, which embodies Hermès’ creative innovation. A highlight of this series is the Ghillies Birkin in Burgundy crocodile (estimate: €30,000-36,000). Also not to be missed are the Touch and Cargo models (estimates €12,000 to €26,000), prized for their originality.

The collection also includes iconic pieces, such as the Hermès Quelle Idole in Gulliver Orange leather (estimate: €20,000 to €26,000) and the Kelly Doll Picto in Epsom Nata leather (estimate: €20,000 to €26,000).

In parallel with this collector’s sale, Christie’s presents Handbags Online: The Paris Edit until November 14, featuring a refined selection of Hermès bags, as well as iconic pieces from other major houses: Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Dior. This sale offers a unique opportunity to acquire exclusive models and invest in iconic creations.
