Takis Returns to Paris: White Cube Unveils “Le Vide”
This winter, White Cube Paris invites art enthusiasts to rediscover the mesmerizing world of Takis, the Greek pioneer of kinetic art, with “Le Vide”, an exhibition dedicated to his profound relationship with Paris. Running from November 21, 2024, to January 11, 2025, this marks the first major showcase of Takis’ work in France in nearly a decade.
Paris, a city that fueled Takis’ artistic evolution, serves as the backdrop for this deeply personal exhibition. After leaving Athens in 1954, Takis spent four decades in the City of Light, where his fascination with magnetism and kinetic energy became the cornerstone of his work. His encounters with luminaries such as Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, and Marcel Duchamp – who described him as a “joyful ploughman of magnetic fields” – cemented his place in the avant-garde movement.
“Le Vide” highlights Takis’ contributions to the burgeoning kinetic art movement, featuring seminal works from his “Signals” series, inspired by the electrified landscapes of Calais’ railways. The exhibition also celebrates a newly unearthed 1993 conversation between Takis and philosopher Félix Guattari, offering fresh insights into the artist’s visionary mind.
Adding to the grandeur, a monumental wind sculpture by Takis was displayed at the Hôtel de la Marine as part of Art Basel Paris 2024, setting the stage for this remarkable White Cube exhibition.
Don’t miss this chance to explore Takis’ magnetic universe at White Cube Paris, located at 10 Avenue Matignon.
“Le Vide” runs through January 11, 2025, offering a rare glimpse into the legacy of a true artistic innovator.
