Genesis Tramaine (b. 1983, lives and works in New York) is an expressionist devotional painter known for creating abstract portraits that transcend gender and social structures. She transforms everyday experiences into works that evoke déjà vu, recalling memories of past lives and hinting at undiscovered futures. Genesis’ style blends 1980s urban New York graffiti with the imagery of gospel hymns sung on Sunday mornings.

Tramaine’s art features bold, provocative colors and an urban- inspired, mixed-media approach. She focuses on the shape and definition of the human face, using exaggerated features to capture spirited emotions through a mix of acrylic and oil-based paintings. Her work is deeply influenced by Bible verses and other readings from church, which shape the composition and depth of her paintings. Tramaine’s art explores themes such as ethics and
insanity, the mundane and the inhumane, spirituality and sexuality,
and sentimentality. A press release by Eric Troncy, French art critic, curator, and the Director of the Consortium Museum in Dijon, will follow.
