David Hockney Comes to Paris: Phillips Celebrates the Master of Colour, Joy and Modern Iconography

There are artists who capture moments—and then there are those who create entire worlds. David Hockney, with his vibrant palettes, sun-drenched compositions, and unmistakable lines, doesn’t just depict reality—he transforms it into something infinitely more luminous.

And this April, Paris becomes the next canvas for one of the most celebrated living artists of our time. From April 7 to 18, Phillips presents a radiant collection of Hockney’s works at its elegant space on 46 rue du Bac, in what promises to be one of the most talked-about art moments of the season.

Timed to coincide with the blockbuster “David Hockney 25” retrospective at Fondation Louis Vuitton, the Phillips exhibition offers a more intimate, collectible lens on the British icon’s genius. Think rare editions, private loans, and unique works—each one a window into the technicolour universe that Hockney has been crafting for decades.

From his bold iPad drawings and instantly recognisable etchings, to a selection of paintings, prints, and limited-edition books, the exhibition doesn’t just showcase Hockney—it celebrates his endless curiosity, his evolution, his joie de vivre. Pieces like “Ma fenêtre” or the playful “Carte postale de Richard Wagner” remind us that even the most mundane moments become poetry in his hands.

“We are thrilled to present this exhibition in Paris at such a pivotal time in Hockney’s career,” says Robert Kennan, Director of Editions at Phillips Europe. “There’s a renewed global appreciation for his work, and this show is a way for collectors and admirers to engage with the artist in a deeply personal way.”

With works on view ahead of Phillips’ annual Hockney auction in September, alongside private sales and curated loans, the exhibition offers more than admiration—it offers access.
