ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST PARTICIPATION IN NOMAD

Mexico City-based design and architecture studio ATRA is delighted to announce its first participation in NOMAD Capri. The event will be held from 4 to 7 July 2024 on the island of Capri.

On this occasion, ATRA will present a range of its iconic pieces in an exhibition entitled “Future Relics”. This selection represents the innovative and futuristic vision of “near future” design.

JUNE 18, 2024 – Mexico City-based design and architecture studio, ATRA, is excited to announce its inaugural participation in NOMAD, a premier showcase for contemporary art and design. The event will be held from July 4- 7, 2024, on the enchanting Italian island of Capri.

Marking its 14th edition, NOMAD Capri will feature ATRA’s first appearance, following the studio’s successful European debut at Milan Design Week last April. For this prestigious occasion, ATRA will present a curated selection of its most iconic pieces in an exhibition titled “Future Relics.” This selection embodies the studio’s innovative vision of design for the “near future.” Taking part as one of the Special Projects, “Future Relics” will include distinctive new additions to ATRA’s furniture and lighting series.

Highlights will feature the versatile Beluga modular L-shaped sofa, the luxurious Egge chairs upholstered in long-pile alpaca, the elegant Pebble coffee table crafted from white onyx marble, and the unique lights from the Menaad series. This curated selection reflects ATRA’s relationship with nature, technological well-being, spirituality, and the interactions inspired by these themes.

Founder Alexander Díaz Andersson’s visionary approach to design is showcased in this exhibition, blending futuristic concepts with traditional elements. His unique perspective redefines the perception of weight and balance, resulting in pieces that are both visually stunning and structurally innovative, merging Scandinavian minimalism with Mexican maximalism. ATRA’s commitment to innovation and artistic expression shines through in “Future Relics,” which explores new materials and reinterprets traditional methods through unconventional processes.

Nature serves as an endless source of inspiration, driving the exploration of the indescribable spaces in between — the points of tension that bring harmony to each design.

About ATRA

Established in 2014, ATRA operates a production facility in Mexico City whose operations are closely intertwined with the architecture and design studio of ATRA founder, Alexander Díaz Andersson. ATRA’s philosophy revolves around merging futuristic design concepts with traditional woodworking techniques. Their designs reflect a modernist and futuristic perspective that appeals to discerning clients in search of quality, comfort, and the unique craftsmanship of artisans.

ATRA studio’s interiors experiment with forms, volumes, luxury, and innovation. Founder Alexander Díaz Andersson blends Scandinavian minimalism with Mexican maximalism. Inspired by his diverse background in Sweden, Spain, and the Yucatán Peninsula, Díaz Andersson’s creations balance structured chaos with functional fluidity. ATRA’s innovation and artistic expression shine through in their exploration of materials and reinterpretation of traditional methods using unconventional processes.

In 2019, ATRA reached a significant milestone by exhibiting at Design Miami/Basel, marking its expansion into global architectural and design ventures. This was followed by a notable presentation in 2021 at Design Miami, where ATRA showcased “ATRA 2100,” envisioning future living and enduring design, and won “Best in Show,” affirming its dedication to timeless creation over passing trends. Over the past decade, ATRA expanded primarily in North America, with a strong presence in New York, California, and Mexico.

Yet, its architectural projects across Europe and the Mediterranean, including France, Italy, Portugal, and Egypt, led to its debut at Milan Design Week in April 2024, showcasing ATRA Lighting and marking Alexander Díaz Andersson’s venture into new territories.

About NOMAD Capri

The 14th edition of NOMAD will take place at the Certosa di San Giacomo church on the island of Capri from July 4-7, 2024. NOMAD is a traveling showcase for contemporary art and collectible design, blending art, architecture, and design to engage with the unique character of each location. This edition will feature exhibitions and special projects at Certosa di San Giacomo, Capri’s historical building built in 1371, with a site-specific installation at the Diefenbach Museum.
